Meet Ophelia 🌸
Ophelia is a barely 2-year-old Tennessee Walker mix mare who came to Layla Rose Ranch very malnourished and in need of careful nutritional rehabilitation. Still so young, she arrived having missed important growth and development, and she is now beginning the slow, thoughtful process of learning what it feels like to be healthy.
Because of her age and her past, Ophelia is still figuring out her big, growing body. She can be a little awkward in her movement at times—not from attitude, but simply because she is developing physically and mentally at the same time. Patience and consistency are key as she continues to mature.
Despite her rough start, Ophelia is incredibly people-oriented and already loves to be “in your pocket.” She enjoys attention, seeks connection, and is eager to learn. She is just beginning her groundwork and is learning basic manners, boundaries, and how to use her body appropriately. At this stage, her training is intentionally slow and age-appropriate, focused on building trust, confidence, and good habits rather than asking too much too soon.
Ophelia would thrive with an adopter who has experience with young horses and understands the importance of proper nutrition, gentle handling, and allowing a growing horse the time she needs to develop correctly. She is best suited for continued groundwork and light handling while her body catches up with her age.
