So you want to adopt from Layla rose Ranch, but you have some questions about the aoidptions fees and how they work.
What is an Adoption Fee?
This is the amount an adopter must pay in order to adopt from Layla Rose Ranch.
Why do you have it?
There are several reasons why we have an adoption fee:
- Medical care costs: We invest significantly in each horse’s health. This includes vaccinations, gelding, microchipping, parasite treatments, and sometimes extensive medical procedures for horses with special needs. The majority of our rescues are dealing with something when they come in and those vet expenses add up quick.
- Commitment screening: The fee helps ensure adopters are financially prepared for horse ownership and seriously committed to the horses’s long-term care. It helps weed out the “flippers” as well.
- Sustainability: Adoption fees help our rescue continue its mission of saving more horses, as donations alone rarely cover all expenses.
- Protection against harmful intentions: Charging a fee discourages people who might obtain free animals for harmful purposes such as research, or resale.
Does the adoption fee equal the cost you have put into a horse?
95% of the time the answer to that questions is NO. Truthfully, we lose money on every rescue. But thats okay. Because we still win. The horse gets a second chance at life and you get a chance to experience true heartship.
How do you see the adoption fee?
The main component is the horse itself. We do not base any adoption fee on the amount of money invested into its care and training, We use factors like:
-
- Age: Younger horses typically have higher fees than senior horses
- Training level: Well-trained horses with riding abilities command higher fees
- Breed: Some breeds may have higher adoption fees based on their rarity or desirability
- Health status: Horses with special needs or ongoing medical issues may have lower fees
- We also consider the current market rates for horses.
We use an individualize fee structure rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. We aim to balance affordability for qualified adopters while covering some of our costs and ensuring the adopter is financially prepared for horse ownership.
Unlike smaller animal rescues, we have a more extensive adoption screening processes, including property inspections and experience requirements, that complement the fee structure in finding appropriate homes.
Does the adoption fee ever change?
Yes. The more time a horse spends with us in training, the higher its fee will be. For example, if we take in an unhandled horse and get it ready for adoption, that would be one fee. But if we spend time training it and getting it ready for saddle, then the fee will be higher. Some of our adopters prefer to do all the work themselves. So the simple answer is, the more time we put into training the horse, the higher the adoption fee.
All of our rescues will be halter broke and able to lead before adoption.
