Withers: This part of the horse’s back is right above the shoulder blades, between the bottom of the neck and the start of the back. This is where we measure how tall the horse is.

Fetlocks: The joint where the horse’s leg bones meet, including the cannon bone, the small bones near the back of the leg, and the long bone in the middle of the leg.

Stifles: This is where the tibia (shin bone) and the femur (thigh bone) connect. It works just like a human knee!

Pastern: The part of the horse’s leg between the hoof and the fetlock joint.

Croup: This is the horse’s backside, including the muscles around the hips all the way to the tail.

Frog: A special, triangle-shaped area under the hoof that helps blood flow to the tissues around it and absorbs some of the shock when the horse’s hooves hit the ground.
